The big names stole the NFL headlines on Tuesday as injuries, contract extensions and suspension appeals made news. Training camps are getting underway, but only Robert Griffin III won't be out there for the Washington Redskins, while Jay Cutler will not get a contract extension this season and the Broncos will have to wait until August before they find out if Von Miller will be on the field for them at the start of the season.

Robert Griffin III met with reporters on Wednesday and said that he doesn't expect to play in the preseason. Whether he can play in Week 1, when the Redskins take on the Eagles, remains to be seen.
Griffin is making progress in his return from knee surgery, though. He has been cleared to participate in practice and has passed every test administered to him by Dr. James Andrews. While he is not participating in 11-on-11 drills yet, he is taking part in individual drills. Most importantly, Griffin will play 7-on-7’s, giving him the chance to throw and work with his receivers.
The Chicago Bears will not give contract extensions for any players this season, and that includes Jay Cutler. General manager Phil Emery said that the Bears will not consider new contracts until next offseason, at which point Jay Cutler will be staring at free agency.
Cutler is entering the last year of his contract and although he and the team did discuss an extension earlier in the offseason, but when the Bears hired Marc Trestman they put those talks on hold. If the Bears want to keep Cutler after the season, they will either have to agree to an extension with him or use the franchise tag, which will cost them $15.448 million if the salary cap does not change.
Von Miller's appeal of his four-game suspension is likely to be heard in August. The hearing should be done prior to the NFL season so the Denver Broncos will know whether or not their star pass rusher is available to them.
Miller was suspended four games for an unspecified violation of NFL policy. With Elvis Dumervil now in Baltimore, the Broncos can ill afford to have Miller, who totaled 18.5 sacks and six forced fumbles in 2012, out for a quarter of the season.
With training camps getting started, teams have begun to place players on the physically unable to perform list. Santonio Holmes was put on the Jets PUP list today, while Ahmad Bradshaw, Roman Harper and Rob Gronkowski all joined him on their respective teams' lists.
Preseason PUP lists are not a major concern because teams can activate players on it whenever they would like, but if anyone is still on the list by the time the regular season starts they will miss the first six games of the season.
The Atlanta Falcons will have their first round pick on the field for training camp this week after all. The team agreed to a contract with Demond Trufant, ending what had become drawn out negotiations and giving Atlanta the cornerback they hope will replace the departed Dunta Robinson.
