Percy Harvin injury: Seahawks WR to receive 2nd opinion on hip Tuesday

Harvin is reportedly seeking a second opinion on whether or not his injured hip will require surgery. He could potentially miss the entire 2013 season.

Newly acquired Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Percy Harvin is seeking a second opinion on Tuesday on whether or not his injured hip will require surgery, according to The Seattle Times. On Thursday, the Seahawks made the surprise announcement that Harvin would begin training camp on the physically unable to perform list due to a possible partial tear in the labrum of his hip.

Harvin was the prize gem of the Seahawks’ offseason haul, but the speedy pass-catcher’s availability for the year is now in jeopardy. CBS Sports is reporting that hip surgery could likely keep Harvin out for the entire 2013 season. On the other hand, he would be eligible to be removed from the PUP list immediately if cleared by doctors.

Harvin has a history of injuries during his four-year NFL career. He missed the final seven games of the 2012 season with the Minnesota Vikings after being placed on injured reserve with an ankle problem. He also had issues with his right hip in 2010, though it's unclear whether that is related to the current injury.

After spending his first four years in Minnesota, Harvin arrived in Seattle this offseason as part of blockbuster deal in which the Seahawks gave up three draft picks, including a 2013 first-rounder. He was expected to provide rising star quarterback Russell Wilson with an additional weapon and bolster the team's Super Bowl chances.

Harvin racked up 20 touchdowns and over 3,000 yards receiving in his four seasons with the Vikings.
