A.J. Green injury: Bengals WR dealing with bruised knee

Green won’t practice this weekend, but the injury appears minor.

David Kohl-USA TODAY Sports

Wide receiver A.J. Green will sit out Bengals practices over the weekend because of a knee bruise, head coach Marvin Lewis said Friday. Green injured the knee on Thursday while attempting to make a catch along the sideline. He was eventually able to get up and walk to the locker room without any help.

Lewis wasn’t overly concerned about his star wide receiver’s status after Thursday’s practice, and an MRI later confirmed that no serious damage had been done. Cincinnati can breathe a sigh of relief on the matter, because it could ill afford to lose such an important part of the offense to a major injury.

Green earned Pro Bowl nods in each of his first two seasons and finished the 2012 campaign with 1,350 yards receiving and 11 touchdown grabs. Only three players in the league had more touchdown receptions.
