Washington Redskins defensive end Jarvis Jenkins has been suspended for the first four games of the season after violating the NFL's policy on performance enhancing drugs, according to FOX news in Washington, D.C.

Jenkins, a second-round pick in the 2011 NFL Draft out of Clemson, was considered one of the top defensive tackle prospects in the 2011 draft class. He was moved to defensive end in the NFL, though, to fit the Redskins' 3-4 defensive scheme.
The injury puts a wrench in the Redskins' plans as fellow defensive end Adam Carriker is expected to be out four to five months after a third surgery on the quadriceps muscle he tore during Week 2 of the 2012 season. Carriker had become one of Washington's best defensive players, but Jenkins was expected to take a step forward and fill his shoes this season. Now the Redskins will be on the lookout for Jenkins' replacement.
Chris Baker and Kedric Golston are candidates to fill in during the first month of the season while Jenkins serves his suspension.
