Dwyane Bowe injury: Chiefs WR placed on Non-Football Illness List, per report

All signs point to a big season for Bowe ... if he can stay healthy.

Doug Pensinger

The Kansas City Chiefs have placed wide receiver Dwayne Bowe on the Non-Football Illness list, according to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network. It's unclear why Bowe landed on the list at this point, though the official designation is a non-football illness and not an injury, per Adam Caplan of ESPN. Reports indicate that Bowe was receiving extra medical attention before Chiefs practice.

Bowe recorded just 800 receiving yards and three touchdowns last season while battling injuries and poor quarterback play. That performance is a far cry from when he caught 15 touchdowns for the Chiefs back in 2011. Regardless, with Alex Smith under center and Andy Reid coaching the Chiefs, Bowe could be in line for the biggest workload he’s received in his career.

The Chiefs have some depth at wide receiver behind Bowe, but he’s the clear-cut No. 1 option in the passing game. His health is important to Kansas City’s offense so keeping him fresh and on the field is going to be one of the team’s top priorities in training camp.
