Pete Carroll: An ‘array of situations’ could occur with Percy Harvin

Pete Carroll discussed Percy Harvin’s ailing hip after practice on Saturday. The Seahawks are still unsure how long the injury will keep Harvin off the field.

Percy Harvin will travel to New York to get a second opinion on his injured hip on Tuesday. Until then, Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll said the team is just hoping for the best.

Carroll said Harvin could return in a couple of weeks or could be out for the season, depending on what the doctors determine. Surgery could keep Harvin out for the season, but Carroll said the 25-year-old receiver could still play this year, even if surgery is required.

“It wouldn’t necessarily be season ending,” Carroll said on Saturday, via the Tacoma News Tribune. “That’s one of the scenarios it could be, but the likelihood of getting back just depends on what they have to do. ... That’s a possibility, but we’re hoping that’s not the probability. We’re thinking it’s going to be better than that.”

Carroll said there have been players with similar injuries who have played through it, while others have needed surgery. He said Seattle safety Kam Chancellor played through a similar injury last season.

“There’s a whole array of situations that could occur,” Carroll said. “We have to wait and see. It’s everything that he might be able to come right back here in a couple weeks and be ready to go. There may be some procedure that needs to take place, and there’s a number of different ways that could happen. And the lengths of the recovery depends on what has to take place.”

Until Tuesday, all the Seahawks and Harvin can do is wait. Carroll said the organization is taking a cautious approach to make sure he's fully healthy before taking the field, even despite Harvin's desire to practice.
