Riley Cooper to take Jeremy Maclin’s place at WR for Eagles

In the final year of his rookie contract, Cooper will get a chance to shine.

Nick Laham

Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver Jeremy Maclin tore his ACL during Saturday's training camp practice, ending his season and putting a dent in the team's wide receiver depth chart.

On Sunday, it was Riley Nelson who got Maclin’s reps at wide receiver, according to Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer.

Cooper, a fifth-round pick in the 2010 NFL Draft, is in the final year of his rookie contract. He has 46 career catches for 679 yards and five touchdowns in three seasons. He broke his collarbone in training camp last year but came back to play 11 games and put up career highs in catches and touchdowns. At 6-feet-3-inches tall, Cooper has the size to make plays in the red zone, which he showed in flashes last season.

The Eagles’ quarterback situation is still unresolved, and Chip Kelly appears to have his work cut out for him in year one. The running game will have to pick up some of the slack.
