Ryan Williams' frustrations with his oft-injured right knee continued on Sunday when he had to leave practice with some discomfort, but there does not appear to be any structural damage to it. The results of his MRI were "clean," so Williams will now get a second opinion as he attempts to sort out whatever is wrong with his knee and get back on the field for what head coach Bruce Arians agreed was a make-or-break year for the running back.

It has been two years since Williams tore his patella tendon and, after being placed on IR with a shoulder injury last season in Week 5, Williams thought he would finally be able to get his knee 100% healthy. He came into training camp optimistic that he was ready to go, but he had to leave Sunday’s practice with knee troubles.
“Ryan’s going to get a second opinion,” Arians said on Monday. “We’ll see when he comes back. It just flared up. There’s no injury; the MRI’s clean.”
The clean MRI can be looked at one of two ways: the injury is less serious than originally feared and he will be back on the field soon, or the doctors have no reason to explain his issues and as a result cannot lay out a rehab regimen and timetable for his return.
As of right now, it appears as if Williams’ setback is not serious. Arians went on to say a January procedure to clean out the knee has him still “dealing with some kinks” and “I’m pretty sure there’s nothing wrong with it.”
Williams will have a better idea of what he is dealing with after he has his second opinion. The hope is that the next doctor will clear him and he will return to practice on Tuesday afternoon, clearing the way for him to have a fair shot at his make-or-break season.
