Ravens sign Vonta Leach

The Pro Bowl fullback is returning to the Super Bowl champions.

USA TODAY Sports

The Baltimore Ravens have re-signed Vonta Leach, the team announced on Monday. The fullback underwent a physical at the Ravens' practice facility on Monday to complete his return to Baltimore.

Leach was cut by the Ravens in May in a salary cap move. The Pro Bowl fullback immediately drew interest from other teams and visited both the Dolphins and Giants, while the Texans also reached out to Leach, but he didn't sign. The more time that passed with Leach unsigned, the more likely it looked that he would return to Baltimore. On Monday, he finally did.

A season-ending hip dislocation to Dennis Pitta may have forced the Ravens' hand with Leach. With Pitta out, and Anquan Boldin having already been traded away earlier in the offseason, Baltimore was going to struggle to pass the ball. That makes a strong running game all the more important, and paved the way for the Ravens to bring Leach back.
