Titans considering keeping 6 receivers on final roster

Tennessee is considering keeping an extra receiver if things break right in camp.

The Tennessee Titans might buck conventional wisdom when putting together their 2013 roster and keep six wide receivers on the team, according to the Tennessean.

Most NFL teams carry five receivers on the roster, but the Titans could be bringing on an extra player because of Kenny Britt's injury history. In the past, Britt has missed four, 13 and two games of the last three seasons, respectively.

Of course, carrying a sixth receiver does present the possibility of having another option on special teams.

Should Tennessee decide to go this route, the six who are the favorites to make the team would be Britt, Justin Hunter, Kendall Wright, Damian Williams, Marc Mariani and Kevin Walter.

Last season, the Titans ranked 22nd in pass yardage, so keeping a bevy of receivers fresh for third-year quarterback Jake Locker might not be the worst idea. And if things aren't working out a few weeks in, somebody can always be cut.
