Ausar Walcott can’t sign with an NFL team without Roger Goodell’s approval

Same as he did with Aaron Hernandez, Goodell will not allow teams to sign Walcott until he has conducted a hearing.

USA TODAY Sports

Former Browns linebacker Ausar Walcott cannot sign with any team until NFL commissioner Roger Goodell "conducts a hearing and determines any appropriate discipline under the Personal Conduct Policy." Walcott, an undrafted free agent rookie out of the University of Virginia, was recently charged with attempted murder, in addition to other charges.

It is the same arrangement given to former Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez, who is being charged with the murder of Odin Lloyd.

Walcott was arrested last week and charged with first-degree attempted murder, second-degree aggravated assault, and third-degree endangering an injured victim. He allegedly participated in the beating of a man outside of a bar in New Jersey on June 23, with the man going into a medically-induced coma and listed in critical condition. Walcott has pleaded not guilty to the charges and was released on $500,000 bail.

The Browns released Walcott shortly after the news broke, and he will now remain a free agent at least until Goodell makes him eligible to sign with a team again.
