Sidney Rice goes to Switzerland for knee treatment

Rice flew to Switzerland to get treatment on his knee, but Pete Carroll insists it isn’t anything to worry about. All right then.

Steven Bisig-USA TODAY Sports

Seattle's Sidney Rice was absent from training camp practice on Tuesday and as it turns out the wide receiver was actually halfway around the world. Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll said Rice flew to Switzerland to get treatment on his knee.

Carroll said Rice feels fine, but wanted to have a preventative procedure done to assure he doesn’t have any issues with the knee going forward, according to Bob Condotta of the Seattle Times. Carroll said Rice was having a non-surgical procedure done, according to ESPN 710 and should be able to return to practice as soon as he returns later in the week.

As Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk pointed out, a number of professional athletes have gone to Europe to receive Regenokine injection treatments, which haven’t been approved by the FDA. It’s unknown if that is what Rice traveled to Switzerland for, but he battled knee injuries late last season.

While Carroll doesn't expect Rice to be out long, the Seahawks are currently without their top two wide receivers with Percy Harvin getting a second opinion on his hip in New York on Tuesday. Rice has a history of injury issues, playing 16 games twice during his six-year NFL career.
