Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie injury: Broncos CB carted off field

The first-year Bronco is hoping for a career resurgence in Denver, but his training camp development may have hit a snag on Wednesday.

USA TODAY Sports

Denver Broncos cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie suffered an apparent left knee or ankle injury in Wednesday's practice and was carted off the field. He was unable to place any weight on his left leg after pulling up lame and coming to a rest on the sidelines.

Rodgers-Cromartie, 27, signed a one-year, $5 million contract with Denver in the offseason after spending the previous two years with the Eagles. The former 16th overall pick by Arizona out of Tennessee State, Rodgers-Cromartie was traded to the Eagles in 2011 in the deal to acquire Kevin Kolb from Philadelphia. He has played in all but three possible games in his five-year career, but has fallen short of expectations from his lofty draft status.

He mostly played the nickel position with the Eagles, but Broncos defensive coordinator Jack Del Rio believes that with Denver, he can become more talented and more consistent on defense with the abilities that has possesses.

Now, the Broncos will have to wait and see if he’s healthy enough to return and develop those abilities further.

Update: ESPN’s Chris Mortensen reports that Rogers-Cromartie suffered a high ankle sprain.
