Eric Decker contract: Broncos WR playing his way to lucrative 2014 deal

Decker’s on-field performance should lead to a much bigger salary.

Eric Decker is underpaid, but that may not be the case for long.

The Broncos wide receiver, who caught 85 passes a season ago when his salary was $540,000, is playing his way to a lucrative 2014 contract, according to the Denver Post.

Decker was a third-round pick in 2010 out of Minnesota, meaning his entry level contract was structured in such a way to make him a bargain if he was to produce early in his career. Once Peyton Manning arrived last season, Decker had his breakout year, crossing the 1,000-yard mark for the first time in his career and catching 13 touchdowns for Denver.

Meanwhile, the Broncos will have to extend Demaryius Thomas in the coming years, as the team's first-round pick in 2010 burst onto the scene last year, as well, with over 1,400 yards receiving. Add in Wes Welker, and Manning has some of the best weapons he's ever had.

Now the Broncos have to make sure they are all appropriately compensated.
