Antrel Rolle carted off the field, will undergo a MRI

New York starting safety Antrel Rolle was carted off the field due to an ankle injury and the injury is serious enough to warrant an MRI.

The Star-Ledger-USA TODAY Sports

New York Giants free safety Antrel Rolle will undergo a MRI on his ankle after he was injured during practice on Monday and had to be carted off the field. Rolle injured his right ankle when his feet got tangled with tight end Bear Pascoe's as the two went up for a pass, according to Ralph Vacchiano of the New York Daily News.

According to Vacchiano, Rolle landed awkwardly and appeared to be in pain. He was taken to the locker room and will have a MRI to determine the extent of the damage. Giants head coach Tom Coughlin said he didn’t know the severity of the injury, but Vacchiano reported the Giants didn’t appear to be “overly concerned” even though they won’t know for sure until the results of the MRI come back.

The Giants have been hit hard by injuries at safety in recent seasons, although Rolle hasn’t been among the players missing time. He started all 48 regular season games since coming to New York and was shifting into a ball-hawking free safety role this season after playing in the box more last season due to injuries to other places.

New York has some depth behind Rolle, including Ryan Mundy who filled in on the first-team with Rolle out.
