Denver Broncos restructure Chris Kuper’s contract

Denver has saved a bit of money by re-working the offensive lineman’s deal.

CHirs Humphreys-USA TODAY Sports

The Denver Broncos and guard Chris Kuper have come to terms on a contract reconstruction, according Ian Rapoport.

Rapoport says Kuper will be getting paid $1.1 million to $2.8 million depending on the amount of time Kuper plays this season. The final two years of Kuper’s deal aren’t changing and for 2013, he’s guaranteed $1.05 million.

Kuper was scheduled to make $4.5 million this year, but since he’s not expected to start the season due to an ankle injury that required surgery, it was too rich for the Broncos, according to Mike Klis of the Denver Post.

During the offseason, the Broncos went out and signed former San Diego Chargers guard Louis Vasquez who provides the team with another solid piece at the guard spot. At the time of signing Vasquez to a 4-year, $23.5 million deal, he became the 10th highest paid guard in the league.

Currently, Zane Beadles is the other starting guard opposite of Vasquez while Kuper works his way back.
