Desmond Bishop’s spot on Vikings roster in jeopardy

Bishop will need to prove himself in the next two weeks if he hopes to stick with the Vikings.

Linebacker Desmond Bishop joined the Minnesota Vikings in June, but if he can't manage to stay healthy in the remaining weeks of August, it could be his final month with the team. On Monday, Vikings head coach Leslie Frazier spoke to Dan Wiederer of the Minneapolis Star Tribune and other members of the media about Bishop's prospects at making the final roster.

“This is going to determine whether or not he makes our team,” coach Leslie Frazier said. “So much of this is about how he plays over the next two weeks. Or if he’s not available because of his injury. I can’t say it any simpler than that. It’s a big two weeks for him. He needs to show us he can help our football team in order to make our team.”

Bishop, 29, was a consistent linebacker for the Green Bay Packers, but suffered a torn hamstring in a preseason game against the San Diego Chargers in 2012. The injury sent him to the injured reserve and proved to be his last appearance in a Packers uniform as the team elected to release him in the following offseason.

A year removed from the injury that ended his career with the Packers, Bishop is struggling to stay on the field, but this time it was a groin pull that kept him on the sidelines. With just a few weeks before final cuts, Bishop will need to stay healthy to have a chance at proving his worth.
