Cecil Shorts most likely won't take the field for the Jacksonville Jaguars in their second preseason game against the New York Jets Saturday, but fans shouldn't be too concerned -- he's just day-to-day, and the team says he'd "probably" play in a regular season game.
Cecil Shorts injury: Jaguars WR remains day-to-day
The Jaguars aren’t taking risks with their top wide receiver, who is considered “doubtful” for Saturday’s preseason game, even though he’d likely play in the regular season.

Shorts has a calf issue which kept him off the field in the team’s preseason opener as well as practice Monday and Tuesday. But there are no reports the injury is serious.
The third-year man out of Mount Union who busted out for 979 yards last season, after just 30 as a rookie, is vitally important for Jacksonville. The Jags are still sorting out the quarterback battle -- nobody knows who's starting Saturday -- and both Blaine Gabbert and Chad Henne could use help. With Shorts not in the lineup, Justin Blackmon is the top wide receiver, but he's suspended for the first four games of the regular season.
Backups include Ace Sanders, a fourth-round pick this year who will probably be best used as a return man; Mike Brown, who went undrafted last year and has no career catches to his name; Mohamed Massaquoi, who had 17 receptions last year for Cleveland; and Jordan Shipley, who hasn't impressed since being a third-round pick out of Texas in 2010.
Suffice it to say, Shorts is kinda important, and the Jags need to take care with him. No need to worry from a fantasy perspective, either.
