Montario Hardesty injury: Browns RB will have knee scope

Montario Hardesty is facing another setback in his fight to make the Browns roster. He will have knee scope surgery and will be out for another few weeks.

Ron Schwane-USA TODAY Sports

Cleveland Browns running back Montario Hardesty will undergo a knee scope surgery, according to Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer. There is no timetable set for his return, but this will keep him sidelined for at least a couple weeks.

Hardesty is already out of practice with a dislocated thumb, and his knee procedure might keep him out for the rest of the preseason. He's battling Dion Lewis for the backup job behind Trent Richardson but has been unable to stay healthy, having missed the majority of training camp with a hamstring injury.

Hardesty rushed for 271 yards and one touchdown last season while serving as Richardson’s main backup. He has since been passed by Lewis on the depth chart, and his roster spot may be in jeopardy. Hardesty’s fate in Cleveland could be sealed if Lewis performs well in the final three preseason games.
