Randall Cobb injury: Packers WR battles biceps injury

Randall Cobb is expected to play an even bigger role for the Packers this season, but first he must battle through the pain and frustration of a biceps injury.

Randall Cobb has been practicing through pain since suffering a biceps injury early in training camp. The Green Bay Packers' slot man had trouble concealing the grimace on his face during practice Tuesday, according to the Wisconsin State Journal. On Wednesday, Cobb was held out of practice altogether. After practice Tuesday, Cobb spoke with reporters and described his frustration.

“The hardest part for me is I’m a tough. I want to be on the field, I don’t like missing practice, I hate missing practice,” Cobb said. “So trying to be smart and tough at the same time is difficult for me, but I understand that I have limitations and that I have to smart about it.”

Cobb will be taking on an expanded role within the Packers' offense this season, now that Greg Jennings has moved on to the Minnesota Vikings. With Jordy Nelson sitting out training camp after undergoing knee surgery, Cobb was expected to receive extra reps to prove himself as a potential deep threat as well as a slot receiver. Unfortunately for Cobb, he hasn't been able to practice as he would like and correct the issues he's had. The State Journal noted a "rash of drops" during the first week of camp.

Rest should help Cobb get back to 100 percent, though the wideout noted that the injury has helped prep him in other ways.

“I know at some point during the season I’m going to be in pain, and I’m going to have to play and I’m going to have to be productive when I do play,” Cobb said. “So trying to push through it right now is more of a mindset for me. It’s nothing to be worried about. I may look like I’m in a lot of pain, and I may be in a lot of pain, but I’ll be fine.”

With the Packers set to play their next preseason game against the St. Louis Rams on Saturday, Cobb's playing status is still unclear. The wideout was also held out of the preseason opener against the Arizona Cardinals last week. While he awaits a decision, he will be doing his best to maintain communication with staff.

“It’s a line between being tough and being smart, and I think us collectively together, between coaching staff, myself and training staff, we have to figure out what that line is,” Cobb said. “And I think we’re flirting with it right now.”
