The Jacksonville Jaguars will start Blaine Gabbert over Chad Henne at quarterback for Saturday's preseason game against the New York Jets, the team announced Thursday via Twitter. Gabbert was outshone by Henne during the Jags' 27-3 loss to the Miami Dolphins in Week 1 of the preseason, but head coach Gus Bradley is sticking with the younger Gabbert for now.
Jaguars to start Blaine Gabbert in preseason again
Blaine Gabbert will start at quarterback for the Jaguars on Saturday, but don’t count out Chad Henne in the race for the starting job just yet.

Gabbert has struggled mightily through two seasons in the NFL. The former No. 10 overall pick has completed just 53.8 percent of his career passes at 5.61 yards per attempt for 21 touchdowns and 17 interceptions. Last Friday, he went 5-for-10 passing for 19 yards and an interception. Henne replaced Gabbert in the second quarter and had more success, 8-for-11 for 87 yards.
Though Gabbert will make a second consecutive start, the Jaguars also announced that Henne will be getting ample reps with the team’s starting offensive line and wide receivers, suggesting the quarterback battle hasn’t fully been decided yet. Alfie Crow over at Jaguars blog Big Cat Country believes Gabbert can claim the starting job for the regular-season opener with a big performance Saturday.
With Gabbert getting the nod against the Jets, making it two starts in a row for the preseason, one may be led to think that he’s won the quarterback job and will be the starter for Week 3 of the preseason and Week 1 of the regular season.
If Gabbert can put together a solid performance against the Jets, he can slam the door shut. If he goes out and bombs however, the door will still be wide open for Chad Henne.
