News of Washington's suspension first broke in April, days after the Arizona Cardinals looked to turn over a new leaf with head coach Bruce Arians and quarterback Carson Palmer. The loss of Washington hurts a team that lacks a lot of defensive playmakers and missing four games could have repercussions for a team scheduled to face tough teams to start the season, including a week one divisional matchup against the St. Louis Rams.
Washington finished the 2012 season with a career-high 134 tackles and nine sacks. He was named to his first Pro Bowl, placed on the All Pro second team and voted by his peers as one of the league’s top 100 players earlier this year.
Free agent Jasper Brinkley will fill the inside linebacker role in Washington's absence. Signed as a free agent from Minnesota, Brinkley is coming off a career year of his own, totaling 99 tackles for the Vikings.
