Lions vs. Browns: Injuries spoil Cleveland’s 24-6 victory

From a performance standpoint, Thursday was a positive step forward for the Browns. Unfortunately, they lost multiple players to injury.

The Cleveland Browns picked up a relatively easy win over Detroit Thursday night, but it was not without its costs. The Browns lost several players to injuries, and at least one of those was significant. As far as SB Nation's Dawgs By Nature is concerned, that was the story of the game for Cleveland.

The bad takeaway from this game is the injury factor. We already mentioned [offensive guard Jason Pinkston], but also leaving the game were OLB Barkevious Mingo (rib), RB Dion Lewis (ankle), TE Gary Barnidge (shoulder), and K Brandon Bogotay (groin).

In Lewis’ case, the news is particularly bad -- he ended up being diagnosed with a broken leg, and his recovery time could push well into the regular season. Mingo was hospitalized with a bruised lung, while Pinkston suffered a right ankle injury and was seen after the game wearing a boot on the foot.

Cleveland's running back situation became a bit more precarious following Lewis' setback -- Montario Hardesty already had been sidelined in camp after having a knee scoped, and he might not see any more action in the preseason. That leaves a void behind starter Trent Richardson, and Richardson has a lengthy injury history of his own.

Pinkston’s injury also is alarming considering the fact that guard Shawn Lauvao will miss the start of the regular season after undergoing ankle surgery last week. If Pinkston’s injury proves serious, the Browns could begin the year without two starters up front.
