Falcons vs. Ravens 2013: Atlanta sharp in defeat

Atlanta lost its second straight preseason game, but left no reason for alarm.

The Falcons lost to Baltimore on Thursday, putting Atlanta at 0-2 to begin the preseason, but there was little reason for concern despite the outcome. The Falcons played well in most facets and held a multi-score lead before the Ravens' reserves reeled off three-straight touchdowns in the fourth quarter to claim the victory.

Dave Choate of The Falcoholic saw plenty of things to be excited about Thursday, including the offensive line, which impressed in both run and pass situations:

The offensive line looked really, really good against a talented Ravens front seven. They bought Ryan and Davis plenty of time, sprung Steven Jackson and Jacquizz Rodgers and just generally stepped up in a big way. Lamar Holmes and Garrett Reynolds each had one major whiff, but overall this unit impressed.

From a production standpoint on both sides of the ball, Atlanta was significantly better in its second preseason game. In their opener, the Falcons gave up 434 yards of offense to Cincinnati while gaining just 268 yards in a 34-10 defeat. Against Baltimore, those yardage numbers essentially were flipped.

Choate added that Atlanta “looked ready for the regular season” on Thursday, and for a team with legitimate Super Bowl aspirations, that’s far more important than the numbers on the scoreboard.
