Dion Lewis injury: Browns unsure if broken leg will end RB’s season

Injuries are piling up among the Browns’ running backs.

Andrew Weber-USA TODAY Sports

The Cleveland Browns are still unsure if running back Dion Lewis' fractured fibula will end his season, and he'll undergo further tests to help determine his status, Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com reported Friday.

Lewis suffered the injury Thursday in the Browns' 24-6 preseason win over the Detroit Lions. According to Cabot, the Browns will try to determine if Lewis will miss the season or if he's a candidate for the short-term injured reserve. If he's placed on the short-term IR list, he would be eligible for activation after Week 8.

Lewis ran for 33 yards on five carries before suffering the injury Thursday. He had been practicing as the Browns' No. 2 running back behind Trent Richardson, a role that will now likely fall to Brandon Jackson. Montario Hardesty is expected to miss at least the rest of the preseason with knee scope surgery.

Lewis spent his first two seasons as a pro with the Philadelphia Eagles before an April trade sent him to Cleveland.
