New York Giants wide receiver Hakeem Nicks will make his preseason debut on Sunday against the Indianapolis Colts, according to Ralph Vacchiano of the New York Daily News.
Giants WR Hakeem Nicks to make preseason debut vs. Colts
Nicks’ groin injury is behind him for now, allowing him to be cleared when the Giants play the Colts this weekend.
Nicks missed the Giants’ first preseason game with a groin injury that has been bothering him since the start of training camp. The wide receiver was also hampered with an injury year when he battled through a knee injury for most of the season, eventually having arthroscopic surgery on it in February.
The Giants locked up Victor Cruz to a contract extension this offseason, and Nicks is next in line as he enters the final season of his deal with New York. As the team's No. 1 wide receiver, Nicks will likely demand more money than the $9.5 million signing bonus Cruz received.
In order to demand that type of contract, Nicks will need to prove he’s healthy ... and stay healthy. That starts on Sunday, when Nicks gets his first preseason action of the year. Nicks made his preseason debut even later last year -- due to a broken foot -- so the Giants will be happy to get the former first-round pick some reps.
