Barkevious Mingo injury: Browns rookie released from hospital

Mingo spent two nights in the hospital after suffering a bruised lung on Thursday.

Ron Schwane-USA TODAY Sports

Cleveland Browns rookie Barkevious Mingo was released from the hospital on Saturday, after he suffered a bruised lung in the team's 24-6 win against the Detroit Lions on Thursday, according to Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer.

Mingo, 22, was originally expected to be released from the hospital on Friday after spending the night, but stayed an additional night. Although he was released from the hospital, he’ll have to wait to make his return to the field as Cabot reports he could miss “at least two weeks,“ including Cleveland’s final two preseason games.

Taken with the sixth overall selection in the 2013 NFL Draft, Mingo is expected to be a centerpiece in a Cleveland defense led by former-Arizona Cardinals defensive coordinator Ray Horton.

Given the nature of the preseason, the Browns are likely to allow Mingo as much time as possible to recover from his lung injury. The most logical return to the field for Mingo would be the team's Week 1 game against the Miami Dolphins.
