The San Francisco 49ers earned a come-from-behind, 15-13, victory on Friday night against the Kansas City Chiefs, after quarterback B.J. Daniels led a 90-yard touchdown drive, which culminated with a 14-yard touchdown pass to Chuck Jacobs.
49ers vs. Chiefs: San Francisco defense shuts down Alex Smith, Chiefs
SB Nation’s 49ers and Chiefs blogs react to Friday night’s preseason game.

The pass was one of only two touchdowns scored and the other came in the first quarter when Quintin Demps returned a kickoff 104 yards for a score. The low-scoring tilt left David Fucillo of Niners Nation feeling good about the 49ers defense for a second consecutive game.
The 49ers defense also put together another strong performance, with the starters and reserves looking good for the most part. The only touchdown came on a Chiefs kick return. Other than that, the 49ers defense has now put together eight strong quarters of football.
In his return against the 49ers, Chiefs quarterback Alex Smith struggled to get anything going against the defense he used to face in practice. Smith completed 7-of-16 passes for 62 yards, but couldn’t connect with 2011 first-round pick Jonathan Baldwin despite multiple attempts. Not all were the fault of Smith though, as Joel Thorman of Arrowhead Pride pinned one incompletion on Baldwin:
Horrible drop by Jon Baldwin on a slant. Has to make that catch, and he knew it.
The loss was a second consecutive defeat for the Chiefs. Next up for Kansas City is a matchup against Pittsburgh on Aug. 24. The 49ers will continue their preseason on Sunday, Aug. 25 with a game against the Minnesota.
