Derek Wolfe injury: Broncos DE X-rays come back negative

Wolfe, who is scheduled to start on Denver’s defensive line, suffered a helmet-to-helmet hit during Saturday’s game at Seattle.

Tests on Denver Broncos defensive end Derek Wolfe came back negative after Wolfe suffered a spinal injury in the Broncos' preseason game against Seattle Saturday. Head coach John Fox said two tests have come back clean with an MRI pending, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter:

Wolfe left the field in an ambulance Saturday after taking a helmet-to-helmet hit on a collision with Seattle fullback Michael Robinson. He was taken to a local hospital for testing and observation. Wolfe was released from the hospital Saturday night and allowed to return to Denver with his teammates. There is no word yet on whether he will miss any further time.

Wolfe was the Broncos’ second-round draft pick in 2012. He played college football at Cincinnati. Wolfe recorded 40 tackles and 6 sacks in his rookie season. He was listed as the Broncos’ starting defensive end entering 2013.

Seattle trounced Denver 40-10. The Broncos return to action against the Rams on Saturday, Aug. 24.
