Jaguars vs. Jets 2013: Jets bloggers react to dominant win

The New York Jets defeated the Jacksonville Jaguars, 37-12, in Saturday preseason action. The scoreboard is somewhat misleading, as the Jets couldn't put the Jaguars away early and Mark Sanchez continued to struggle. Rookie Geno Smith missed the game with an ankle injury, so this quarterback battle will rage on for another week.

Against the Lions the line looked very questionable, the QB's were hurried, the RB's had no space to run at all, and there were 3 penalties called on the starting unit for a total of 25 negative yards. You can't read too much into pre-season, however for our sanity they needed to perform.

This was how it was all night, lots of time for the QB's to find their targets and no penalties on the starting unit. Colon was dominant as you can see in the last picture, that's 3-4 seconds after the snap. It's pre-season, it's early but it's also encouraging.

Adam Stites of Big Cat Country was encouraged by Blaine Gabbert, who played much better than he did last week. The backup quarterbacks were less encouraging:

Unfortunately for the Jaguars, when Gabbert left, so too did the team's offensive production as both Chad Henne, Matt Scott and Mike Kafka struggled in the remainder of the game. Henne completed 4-of-10 passes for 30 yards with an interception, while Scott was unable to complete any of his four pass attempts and Kafka finished with negative passing yardage.

Even worse than the Jaguars backup quarterbacks though, was the defense that couldn't do much of anything against Mark Sanchez and the Jets. While Marcus Trufant managed to record an interception against the Jets starter to prevent a touchdown, the opposing team drove down the field at will and talented rookies like Johnathan Cyprien and LaRoy Reynolds looked like they still have some maturing to do as players.
