Bengals cut Aaron Maybin, 2 others

The Bengals cut ties with draft bust Aaron Maybin after two preseason games. They also released Tyrone Goard and Troy Stoudermire

Rich Barnes-US PRESSWIRE

The Cincinnati Bengals have released linebacker Aaron Maybin Sunday, the team announced on its Twitter page. They also cut wide receiver Tyrone Goard and cornerback Troy Stoudermire.

Maybin was drafted by the Buffalo Bills with the 11th overall pick in 2009, but he quickly flamed out with the team, lasting just two seasons and failing to record a single sack. He is considered one of the biggest draft busts in Bills history.

Maybin's only real NFL success came in 2011, where he recorded six sacks and four forced fumbles in a limited role with the New York Jets. They released him in November 2012, and he hasn't played a regular season game since then. The Bengals picked him up in the offseason hoping for a reclamation project, but they apparently weren't impressed with what they saw in training camp.

Goard and Stoudermire were both signed as undrafted free agent rookies, but neither player made it to the first roster cut deadline, when teams have to trim their rosters down to 75 players.
