Doug Martin returns to Buccaneers practice

Doug Martin returned to practice for the Buccaneers on Monday after suffering a head injury Friday against the Patriots.

Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

Doug Martin is back in practice and reportedly feels fine despite suffering a head injury during last Friday's preseason loss to the New England Patriots, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers announced Monday via Twitter. Martin practiced without taking contact, but is expected to be ready to play in the Bucs' upcoming preseason game against the Miami Dolphins this Saturday.

Martin took a knee to his helmet while in pass protection, and had to be examined on the sideline before being taken to the locker room. After the game, he told Stephen Holder of the Tampa Bay Times that he did not suffer a concussion.

Martin's return should be a relief to Buccaneers fans, not to mention fantasy football owners. Martin had 1,454 yards rushing, 472 yards receiving and scored 12 total touchdowns during his rookie season. He touched the ball 368 times last season, and could see an even greater role this season. Brian Leonard, an offseason signee from the Cincinnati Bengals, is currently Martin's top backup.
