Bell aggregated his knee injury two days ago, but is expected to make the start Monday night against the Washington Redskins, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. He recently rose to the top of the top of the Steelers' depth chart, following a series of excellent practices in training camp.
The addition of Bell gives more options to a stable of runners who have struggled early in preseason. LaRod Stephens-Howling ran for 40 yards on 7 carries in Pittsburgh's first preseason game, but other backs struggled. Jonathan Dwyer managed just 2.5 yards per carry, while Isaac Redman was only given two carries.
Pittsburgh are looking to move in a new direction with their running backs after parting ways with Rashad Mendenhall during the offseason. Bell's size closely resembles former Steelers' legend Jerome Bettis, and head coach Mike Tomlin will hope the rookie can have a similar impact.
