The St. Louis rams have officially named Daryl Richardson as the starting running back for Week 1 of the regular season, according to Jim Thomas of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

With Isaiah Pead suspended, Richardson will get the first crack at the Rams’ starting running back job.

Richardson has four rushes for 24 yards this preseason to go along with three catches for 44 yards. With Steven Jackson moving on to Atlanta this offseason, Richardson was seen as the logical choice to replace him after flashing big play ability as a rookie in 2012.
The move isn't a surprise, since Isaiah Pead, who was providing the main competition for Richardson, is suspended for the first week of the season.
As a rookie, Richardson rushed 98 times for 475 yards, adding 24 catches while seeing limited action in all 16 games.
