Nate Livings injury: Cowboys LG to have knee surgery, per report

The Cowboys offensive line has taken another hit, this time with an injury to their starting left guard.

Matthew Emmons-USA TODAY Sports

Dallas Cowboys offensive lineman Nate Livings will undergo surgery on his right knee, according to a report from Todd Archer of ESPN Dallas. It will be the second operation on the knee in six months for the left guard and, with an estimated recovery time of two to four weeks, the injury could put his availability for Week 1 in doubt.

Livings had the first operation in February, but he aggravated the injury during May’s OTAs. The team hoped that rest would take care of the issue, but knee soreness forced him to sit out of Thursday’s practice and now it appears as if he is bound for surgery once again.

The Cowboys were already thin up front, too, with a myriad of injuries: Mackenzy Bernadeau injured his hamstring in the team's conditioning test, Kevin Kowalski is out for up to a month with a bruised knee, Jermey Parnell has missed most of training camp with a hamstring sprain and Livings' backup, Ronald Leary, just returned to practice this week after hurting his back.

Dallas signed offensive linemen James Nelson and Jeff Olson this week, but neither is an ideal option to start and another recent signing, Demetress Bell, hasn't practiced due to conditioning concerns. The Cowboys have also been linked to Brian Waters, though those discussions may get more intense as they look to patch up their injury-depleted offensive line.
