Ravens CB Asa Jackson suspended 8 games for PED violation

Jackson will be eligible to return against the Bengals in Week 9.

Mitch Stringer-US PRESSWIRE

Baltimore Ravens cornerback Asa Jackson has been suspended for the first eight games of the 2013 NFL season for violating the league's policy on performance enhancing drugs, according to Aaron Wilson of the Baltimore Sun.

Jackson has now failed two drug tests in his career, the first coming half way through last season. Jackson said the substance he has been taking has been approved since he failed the test, according to Wilson, but he knows he has to be accountable for his actions.

“I now have the required approval, but the positive test occurred before it was approved,” Jackson said. “The policy is very strict, so I have chosen to be immediately accountable.”

Jackson, a fifth round pick in the 2012 NFL Draft, is suspended without pay until the team's Week 10 game against the Cincinnati Bengals. Baltimore Beatdown, SB Nation's Ravens blog, thinks Jackson's suspension could open the door for Chris Johnson or Moe Lee to crack the 53-man roster.
