Trevor Scott signs with Buccaneers

Scott finished the 2012 season with three sacks for the New England Patriots.

David Butler II-USA TODAY Sports

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers announced the signing of former-Oakland Raiders and New England Patriots defensive end Trevor Scott on Tuesday, adding another pass rusher to a roster that finished with the third-fewest sacks in the NFL in 2012.

Scott, 28, was a sixth-round selection in the 2008 NFL Draft and slowly worked his way into the Raiders lineup, eventually earning a full-time starting role during the 2010 season. However, that season was derailed by an ACL tear after 10 games, and Scott was unable to record a sack in the following season, despite play time in all 16 games.

In March 2012, Scott signed a one-year deal with the Patriots where he played in 14 games and recorded three sacks.

The Buccaneers finished the 2012 season with 27 sacks, with Michael Bennett leading the way for the pass rushers with nine sacks. Simeon Rice’s 14-sack season in 2005 was the last time that a Buccaneers pass rusher managed to record a double-digit sack total.
