Kirk Cousins injury: Redskins QB avoids ligament damage

The second-year man out of Michigan State is expected to be back soon after suffering a foot injury against the Steelers on Monday.

The Washington Redskins got some good news on Tuesday when quarterback Kirk Cousins' MRI came back negative for ligament damage, according to NFL.com's Albert Breer. A timeframe for his return isn't immediately known, but he should be back soon. Cousins left Washington's preseason game against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Monday night after he suffered a foot injury. Washington won, 24-13.

With Robert Griffin III still not cleared to play after suffering a torn ACL in January against the Seattle Seahawks, Washington needs Cousins to stay healthy and on the field until Griffin can come back. He flashed the ability to play well at the NFL level in spot duty for RGIII last year, and has continued to look good so far in the preseason. The next in line behind Cousins for Washington is Rex Grossman, which would be fun for other fans to watch, but probably not Washington's.

Cousins’ career line is 33-for-48 for 466 yards, four touchdowns and three interceptions in three regular-season games.
