The NFL has suspended Houston Texans defensive end Antonio Smith for the rest of preseason and the Week 1 opener for swinging a helmet at the head of Miami Dolphins offensive guard Richie Incognito, ESPN reports. He is also expected to be fined for the incident.
Antonio Smith suspended for Week 1
The NFL has handed down its punishment to Antonio Smith. He will be suspended for the rest of preseason and the first game of the regular season for using a helmet as a weapon.

The league started investigating Smith when NFL insider Jay Glazer aired footage of the incident on Fox Football Daily. Smith was lined up across Incognito and engages with him. The two continue scuffling until the end of the play, when Smith rips off Incognito’s helmet and swings it at his head. No penalty was issued despite an official standing just several yards away. This is not the first time Smith and Incognito were involved in an ugly episode. Last season, Smith was fined $21,000 for kicking Incognito. He appealed down to $11,000 and claimed he was retaliating after Incognito twisted his ankle.
