Nick Foles might have lost his quarterback competition against Michael Vick-- and much more quickly than expected -- but he has no desire to move on.

Nick Foles has no desire to get out of Philly after Michael Vick earned the starting role in what Chip Kelly says will be a one-QB system.

Foles and Vick played well in preseason as Vick was 13-for-15 with a touchdown and a pick while Foles was 11-for-14 with a pick. But new coach Chip Kelly, perhaps piqued by the idea of having one of the most mobile quarterbacks in league history under center in a system where speedy QB’s are a boon, named Vick his starter Tuesday.
Regardless, that doesn’t mean Foles wants to move on:
“My mindset is I want to be here,” Foles said. “I want to be a Philadelphia Eagle and be a part of this team. I want to be here. I want to be on the team. I’ve been with these guys. I feel we have a really good thing going, and I love this team, the coaches, everything about it.“Probably a wise move by Foles. That he was even in the mix to start probably says more about how poorly Vick played last year than how well he played as a rookie, throwing six touchdowns against five picks. There’s really not much to indicate the guy who was a third-round pick last year could be starting on many teams in 2013.
In Philadelphia, he can learn Kelly’s system and back up the 33-year-old Vick who could rapidly lose what’s left of the athleticism that made him a star in a former life. It is somewhat worrisome that Kelly, who watched Foles play at Arizona while coaching at USC, opted to select another Pac-12 quarterback in Matt Barkley this year. The Eagles also brought in a player Kelly coached as an offensive coordinator with the Ducks in Dennis Dixon, but there’s no evidence either is pushing Foles for the backup role.
Kelly says he’s running a one-quarterback system, but that was the case last year under Andy Reid and Foles still got to start six games due to injuries and the general ineffectiveness that was ailing Vick.
