The Arizona Cardinals have signed kicker Dan Carpenter, most recently with the Miami Dolphins, in hopes of creating competition on special teams.
Arizona Cardinals sign kicker Dan Carpenter
Look out, Jay Feely! Dan Carpenter’s coming to get you! (Again.)

The news is the worst nightmare for incumbent kicker Jay Feely. He had been the Dolphins' kicker in 2007, setting a franchise record by hitting 91.3 percent of his field goals. To keep his gig for the 2008 season, he just had to beat Carpenter, then an undrafted free agent out of Montana, in training camp. But he couldn't hold off the rookie, and was cut. He landed with the Jets and has been with the Cardinals since 2010.
Last year, Feely was one of the best kickers in the league, nailing 25 of 28 field goals, extending out to 61 yards. On the other hand, Carpenter went 22 of 27 with a long of 53 for Miami before his year ended with a groin injury. But Feely probably knows better than to underestimate Carpenter.
Carpenter had stuck with Miami ever since beating out Feely five years ago until he was cut by the Dolphins last week, replaced by Caleb Sturgis. He took the week off when his wife gave birth while considering potential options.
