Arian Foster injury: Texans activate RB off PUP list

Foster is off the PUP list and ready to practice for the Texans. How much he can participate remains to be seen.

Jeremy Brevard-US PRESSWIRE

Arian Foster has been activated from the physically unable to perform list and can return to practice for the Houston Texans, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports. Foster has been dealing with a strained calf since May, but he was set to return to training camp earlier if not for a sudden bout of disc irritation in his back.

How much Foster will be able to participate in practice remains to be seen. There is no word yet on whether the running back will be able to play in the Texans' Week 3 preseason game against the New Orleans Saints on Sunday. If Foster sits, he may miss the entire preseason given how few reps starters tend to receive during the fourth game of the preseason.

Foster had nearly 400 touches last season, split between 351 carries and 40 receptions. He has been a pivotal part of the Texans' offense throughout his career, so expect the team to remain cautious with the running back leading up to the regular-season opener against the San Diego Chargers. Foster missed three games to start the 2011 season when he aggravated a hamstring injury trying to rush back to practice.
