Randall Cobb injury: Packers WR returns to practice

Randall Cobb is back in practice and still hoping to prove himself as a deep threat for the 2013 season.

Jeff Hanisch-US PRESSWIRE

Randall Cobb is back in pads for the Green Bay Packers after missing time due to a biceps injury, Wes Hodkiewicz of the Green Bay Press-Gazette reports. Cobb still isn't a full participant in practice, however, per Hodkiewicz.

Cobb has been limited and/or playing through pain throughout training camp and preseason. The injury unfortunately comes at a time when the Packers’ slot man is trying to establish himself as a legitimate outside threat. Cobb hasn’t been able to fully take advantage of the opportunity afforded to him by Jordy Nelson’s absence from training camp while he recovers from knee surgery.

The addition of James Jones, along with Cobb and Nelson, should give the Packers a formidable receiving corps this season, provided all three players are able to stay healthy. The team lost Greg Jennings to the Minnesota Vikings in the offseason, freeing up targets from quarterback Aaron Rodgers to be shared among the trio.

Cobb may relinquish his role as a special teams return ace in anticipation of his increased presence in the Packers’ passing game.
