Le’Veon Bell injury: Steelers RB has Lisfranc injury, out 6-8 weeks

Bell will seek a second opinion find out whether or not he suffered the notorious foot injury and if surgery is required.

Update: Bell has Lisfranc injury and is expected to be out 6-8 weeks.

The Steelers believe that rookie Le'Veon Bell, who left Monday's preseason game against the Redskins after just four carries, may have suffered a Lisfranc injury according to Jay Glazer. The team is hoping that it will not require surgery, but they will not know until Bell has the injury double-checked, per Glazer.

Pittsburgh parted ways with incumbent starter Rashard Mendenhall in the offseason and drafted Bell out of Michigan State with the 48th overall pick. The plan was for Bell to carry a heavy workload this season, but it now appears that he will be out "a while" according to an earlier report today from Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

Jonathan Dwyer carried the ball 14 times and gained 68 yards in relief of Bell on Monday. The Steelers will rely on a combination of Dwyer, Isaac Redman, and LaRod Stephens-Howling in the running game while Bell is on the shelf.

Cedric Benson suffered a Lisfranc injury with the Packers last season after five games and eventually had to have a surgery that ended his year. Santonio Holmes also suffered a Lisfranc injury last year after just four games and could miss the start of this season. Center Ryan Kalil of the Panthers also went on injured reserve with a Lisfranc injury.

How much time Bell will miss should be better known after a second opinion.
