Colts trade RB Delone Carter to Ravens for WR David Reed

Indy and Baltimore swap skill position players in a minor preseason trade.

Scott Boehm

The Indianapolis Colts have sent running back Delone Carter to the Baltimore Ravens for wide receiver David Reed, according to Jason LaCanfora. Both players may have been on the verge of being cut by their respective teams, but will get another chance at their new homes with just two preseason games.

Carter, a fourth-round draft pick in 2011 out of Syracuse, carried the ball 101 times as a rookie for 377 yards and two touchdowns. He saw his carries diminish in 2012 with the emergence of Vick Ballard and the Colts added veteran Ahmad Bradshaw in free agency.

Reed, a fifth-round draft pick in 2010 out of Utah, has seen most of his work come on special teams, but he lost his job as kick returner last season. He has five career catches, all of which came at the end of last season. The Ravens traded Anquan Boldin to the 49ers in the offseason, opening the door for a Ravens receiver to step up in his place, but Reed has not been that player.

The Colts also recently signed WR Maurice Williams, so the team is clearly kicking the tires on potential receivers and special teams performers.
