Dion Jordan injury: Dolphins DE reportedly could miss season opener

Miami’s top rookie has not practiced this week and will be held out of Saturday’s game. Could he miss any regular-season time?

Melina Vastola-USA TODAY Sports

Miami Dolphins rookie defensive end Dion Jordan might not be ready to play by Week 1 of the regular season, according to a report from the Miami Herald. Jordan, the third overall pick in the NFL draft this year, spent much of the offseason recovering from shoulder surgery. He played sparingly in the Dolphins' second preseason game and has not practiced since.

Miami defensive coordinator Kevin Coyle was asked whether or not he doubted that Jordan would be available for the Sept. 8 opener at Cleveland:

“Um, I don’t have doubt,” Coyle said. “I hope if he stays on target with what we’re hearing and what we’re seeing, he’ll be ready to help us come opening day.”

The Dolphins traded up with the Oakland Raiders in order to draft Jordan out of the University of Oregon. Considered by many to be one of the best pass rushers available in the draft, Jordan missed most of training camp due to rehab on his shoulder, and he will be held out of this Saturday's preseason game against Tampa Bay, as well.
