Cornerback Richard Marshall agreed to a one-year deal with San Diego on Friday, according to Pro Football Talk. Marshall was released by the Dolphins earlier in the week, surprising many since he was considered a likely starter in the Miami secondary.
Richard Marshall agrees to deal with Chargers, per report
San Diego added some depth to its secondary on Friday.

Miami's decision to part ways with Marshall may have been financially-motivated, though the team didn't need extra cap space for new acquisitions. Marshall signed a three-year deal worth $16 million with the Dolphins last year and was owed more than $4.5 million in 2013 under the terms of that contract.
The seven-year veteran was limited by a back injury to only four games in 2012, but he's been relatively healthy throughout his career -- before last year, he had appeared in all of his team's games since 2006. Marshall spent his first five years with Carolina, where he made 46 starts, and then spent a season with the Cardinals before moving on to Miami.
Marshall has amassed 18 interceptions over the course of his career, including a career-high four in 2009.
