David Wilson will be Giants’ starting RB, GM says

The second-year pro will be the in the backfield to start the first game of the regular season.

David Wilson will be the Giants' starting running back in the season-opener, general manager Jerry Reese told ESPN's Colin Cowherd on Friday. Wilson and Andre Brown had been competing for the job left vacant by Ahmad Bradshaw after he signed with the Colts in June.

“We expect [Wilson] to be our starter, and be in the backfield with Andre Brown, who had a terrific season going last year until he got hurt,” Reese said.

Wilson played in all 16 of New York’s games as a rookie in 2012, though he finished the year with only 71 carries. More than half of those attempts came in the final month of the regular season when he put together a string of solid showings, including a 13-carry, 100-yard effort against New Orleans.

Wilson finished the year with 358 yards rushing and four touchdowns on the ground. Backfield mate Andre Brown, who was limited to 10 games last season, finished with 385 rushing yards and eight scores.
