Matt Leinart, John Beck to work out for Bills

The Buffalo Bills will work out free agent quarterbacks Matt Leinart and John Beck in the wake of injuries to E.J. Manuel and Kevin Kolb.

Bob Donnan-USA TODAY Sports

The Buffalo Bills are going to work out free agent quarterbacks Matt Leinart and John Beck, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN. Leinart's workout is set for Sunday, Schefter said in another tweet. It is unclear whether Beck will work out on the same day as Leinart.

Buffalo has dealt with a slew of injuries at the quarterback position. Initially, rookie E.J. Manuel was to compete with Kevin Kolb for the starting job. However, Manuel is dealing with a knee injury and may not be ready for the first regular season game, while Kolb recently suffered a concussion. Kolb has dealt with multiple concussions over the last few years.

This leaves rookie Jeff Tuel as the only healthy quarterback on Buffalo's roster. Clearly, the Bills don't want to roll with Tuel as their starter, so bringing in a veteran or two is the smart move. Unfortunately, neither player provides much confidence themselves.

Leinart last played for the Oakland Raiders in 2012, appearing in two games and throwing for 115 yards with no touchdowns and an interception. The most he's played was his rookie season back in 2006, when he played in 12 games and threw for 2,547 yards with 11 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. Beck hasn't played since 2011, when he played in four games for the Redskins, throwing for 858 yards, two touchdowns and four interceptions.
