Mark Sanchez injury: Jets QB hurts right shoulder, leaves game

New York Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez hurt his right shoulder and left Saturday’s preseason game against the New York Giants.

New York Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez left Saturday's preseason game against the New York Giants with an injury to his right shoulder. That's his throwing shoulder, which is a bad sign. He had only six pass attempts in relief of rookie Geno Smith before he left for the locker room.

Sanchez had completed 5 of 6 passes for 72 yards with no touchdowns and no interceptions. He did, however, have a fumble that was lost and another botched snap on his record.

The Jets hadn’t yet made a decision on their starting quarterback, as Sanchez was battling Smith for top honors on the depth chart. A report came out early Saturday that the Jets want Smith to win the quarterback battle. Smith’s play in Saturday’s game wasn’t very encouraging, whether he plays due to winning the battle or Sanchez getting injured. He completed 16 of 30 passes for 199 yards, a touchdown and three interceptions.

Sanchez’s departure looked something like this:
